April and May Events - Catch up!

Ok, so I will try to add some pictures this week, but we are out of town in Cedar City. The past two months have been crazy. Nate finished his last internal medicine rotation and passed his test in it too. Then he did a 2 week rotation in Orthopaedics and loved the work, but was tired a lot. (So were we!) He saw the kids for about an hour total in one week. Brenan for about 5 minutes total and Jackson for about a half hour two of the nights. I wasn't sad for me very much, and I don't think that the kids were very hurt about it, but I was sad daddy didn't get to participate in their lives.

The second week of April we came down to Cedar for the last rotation of 3rd year, family medicine. It is amazing how life changes and turns completely around when Nate is around. It is so much more enjoyable with him in our lives. He takes some of the pressure off me, he gets to play and enjoy his other talents, and the kids and I get to enjoy how fun he is to be around. I don't know... Family Medicine could be the one.

I know that some people think that Family Medicine is for the guys that couldn't get into anything else, and is also a lower paying side of medicine, but neither are completely true. Nate got an awesome score on step 2 of the boards, so that part doesn't apply to him. He could go into anything he wanted to really and he still might (Ortho). Also FM is drastically different in pay than Ortho, but the difference is on average $200 or $400 thousand dollars per year. These numbers are the same to me and having the ability to buy more doesn't mean that I want or need to.

I guess coming from my background - my dad a starving talented artist, and my mom a school teacher - I just don't expect to have very much. I actually don't want the biggest house on the block, just something that is functional, fun and is enjoyable for my family to make memories in. $200 thousand dollars per year will help facilitate that need and want, and that is all I care about.

Being married to Nate I know one thing... if there is a way for him to perfect his practice in medicine to earn more money in an efficient, family friendly way, he will do it. I know that my husband and I will make a good decision. We pray that the Lord will guide us in the right direction.

Lastly, this month has been awesome. It feels like vacation. I don't know if I want to go back to reality, but it comes in 4 days. I love my family. The kids are growing and are so precious! I am so happy to be their mom. I love being married to Nate because he is kind, understanding, and he respects and trusts me. The more I go through this life, the more I see that those qualities are precious and rare. He is an example to me.

Brenan is now standing and walking with the help of a walker toy. He is so loving to everyone and is a very easy baby to please. Jackson is smart as a whip and likes to pretend a lot. He is starving all of the time for a fun activity, and is entirely too busy for me. I guess that I just have to accept that I have two boys in my life (him and daddy) that will always be wearing me out. Jackson said tonight, "I just love you sooo much mommy", and he seals it with a kiss and hug. That makes me feel really good.

I'm glad you guys are having a good time enjoying family :). I can't believe how far Nate is in school! Good luck with deciding where he'll end up. As long as he loves what he does and gets to see the family life will be good :). I'm excited for you guys!

Rachel,
I was just thinking about you yesterday. I miss ya! What a sweet post. It helps me to relive my own gratefulness for where we are in life. Such an exciting time. I can't wait to find out what Nate ends up doing. I know you guys will make a good decision, whatever you decide to do.
Yes, you need to come back and catch up. Mandy is in the Medical Towers now. Nancy is moving into the Klingonsmith's when they move...
Lookin' forward to seeing you!

I love you Rachel. We took lots of long walks that summer before we had to decide on a residency, it's a tough decision. No matter what, you both have your eyes on the eternal perspective - your family will succeed (and be happy) whatever you decide - it's such an exciting time. I'm glad you're enjoying your time in Cedar City - you guys are very missed though.

p.s. I think FM is the perfect profession - they are in such high demand that you'll be able to choose where you live (as opposed to letting your career choose for you). Nate should talk to B. McBride - he LOVES his residency at UVRMC. It's busy, but it seems very manageable.
